Wisconsin Academy Boys and Girls Basketball Program out of Stoughton & Verona, WI. The EXCITEMENT is Building!
A sincere and well-deserved congratulations to Owen Chase! He was awarded the SBBA Athlete Scholarship. Chase plans to attend UW-Madison in the fall to study Civil Engineering. Chase is a great representative of our SBBA program!
Several of our SBBA teams were scheduled to play in tournaments this weekend including the Badgerland State Championships; the tournaments we have entered this weekend have been cancelled due to the rapidly changing situation with the COVID-19 virus. As you likely know, the State of Wisconsin has today issued a Public Health Emergency and The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has now recommended that all non-essential gatherings of 250 or more people be cancelled or postponed. The safety and health of our players and families is our most important priority. For this reason, SBBA has made the decision to suspend tournament play for the remainder of the spring season pending further developments and official guidance from our public health officials.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) recommends that all non-essential gatherings of 250 or more people be cancelled or postponed statewide to help protect Wisconsinites from the spread of COVID-19, particularly those who are most vulnerable to infection and severe disease. DHS supports the decisions of any event organizers that elect to cancel or postpone events with less than 250 attendees in order to protect their communities. Organizers should consider the following:
By implementing limitations on mass gatherings DHS is intending to slow the spread of this epidemic to a level such that the healthcare system is able to maintain quality care for patients. Mass gatherings during an outbreak of a particularly infectious disease such as COVID-19 have the potential to result in large numbers of ill people that can quickly overwhelm local hospitals and clinics.
Congrats to Coach Nolan Weber and the High School basketball program on their Badger Conference South Championship!
SBBA is dedicated to developing player’s basketball skills while creating a fun, safe, and equitable environment that enables both individuals and teams to excel on and off the court.
